My Journey as an Artist......
By Diya Samit
I started art when I was five years old. This website is a way for me to preserve and share my journey, from early crayon-scribbles to recent, advanced works in watercolors and acrylics. I have included my childhood drawings in this website; not because they're perfect, but because they remind me of how much can change with time and practice. Seeing how much I've grown as an artist makes me feel proud of how far I've come. As I step into a new chapter at college and pursue new dreams while facing new challenges, this space reminds me that growth takes time, creativity is a lifelong companion, and good art results from patience and precision. I hope these pieces bring a smile, a spark, or simply a sense of curiosity to anyone who stops by. Thanks for stopping by.

ABOUT ME
My name is Diya Samit, and I'm a high school student planning to pursue the humanities in college. I've been involved in art since I was eight, when I began learning from a teacher who offered something rare—an open, encouraging space where I could explore and express myself freely. She encouraged me to choose my own subjects and follow my own methods, while gently guiding me on the fundamentals—like color balance, form, and composition. That sense of freedom, combined with her quiet mentorship, helped me connect with art in a deeply personal way.
Unlike the structured environment of school, her classes allowed me to grow at my own pace. Over time, I moved from pastel crayons to oils and watercolors, discovering how each medium gave me a different way to express what I was feeling. In grades 9 and 10, I took Visual Arts as part of the IB program, which helped me understand the technical and conceptual side of art. It added structure to my creative instincts and helped me see my work in a broader context.
Art has remained one of the most important parts of my life—it's how I process the world, and also how I unwind, reflect, and express creativity. As I look ahead to college, I'm excited to keep learning, experimenting with new techniques, and growing as an artist.
I am an avid swimmer and represent my school team. I'm also a passionate baker, a devoted Taylor Swift fan, and I love spending time with my dog, Miki. These activities keep me balanced and bring joy and variety to my daily life.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY
from my teachers who have been part of my creative journey
"Over the years of guiding Diya in her artistic journey, I’ve seen her truly come alive with a palette knife in hand. Among the various mediums she explored, acrylics became her voice—especially when painting seascapes in impasto. Her joy and expressive energy shine through every textured wave and brushstroke. It’s been a delight to watch her grow, not just in technique, but in confidence and creative freedom."
Mrs Samiksha Sheth
Art Teacher and Mentor
"During her time in MYP Visual Arts, Diya showed remarkable growth as both an artist and a learner. She developed a strong passion for natural landscapes and abstract painting, with a particular interest in impressionism that shaped her final body of work. She continually refined her skills and pushed herself to improve during her 2 year journey. At first she was a quiet student, but over time she opened up and brought a lot of thought and individuality to her work. I look forward to her journey as an artist.."
